CFTC Requests Comment on Possible Regulation of Prediction Markets

Friday, May 2, 2008

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is asking for comments on the appropriate regulatory treatment of Prediction Markets.

Intrade will continue to be cooperative with regulatory bodies that take an interest in prediction markets and event contracts such as the CFTC who are asking for comments on the appropriate regulatory treatment of prediction markets, also known as event contracts or information markets.

We believe this request by the CFTC is an important indication of the growing importance of prediction markets, the information they aggregate and the utility of that information.

Intrade, as the leading Prediction Market, will be making comment in due course. We have also called on the members of the Prediction Market Industry Association and are calling all those interested in Prediction Markets to make comment within 60 days.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this important matter.
