The Exchange has listed contracts on Mad Cow Disease (BSE) being detected in the United States and the United Kingdom. These contracts can be found under Current Events -- Mad Cow Disease.
Contract Rules:
A contract will settle (expire) at 100 ($10.00) if a case of Mad Cow Disease (BSE) is detected and publicly announced before 11:59:59pm ET on the date specified in the contract.
A contract will settle (expire) at 0 ($0.00) if a case of Mad Cow Disease (BSE) is NOT detected and publicly accounced before 11:59:59pm ET on the date specified in the contract.
Expiry will be based on public official announcements from Government officials, as reported in three independent and reliable media sources.
The contract for the United Kingdom is for a case of Mad Cow Disease detected after the date of contract listing (March 17th, 2008). It does not apply to any cases detected before this date.
If a case is detected before, but not announced until after, the expiry of a contract then the original expiry will stand.

The Exchange reserves the right to invoke Contract Rule 1.8 (Time Protection) if deemed appropriate.
Any changes to the result after the contract has expired will not be taken into account - Exchange Rule 1.4
