New Prediction Market: Will movie markets begin trading on a CFTC regulated platform?

There are indications that markets that would allow investors to trade on the box office returns of movies ("movie markets") could soon be listed on one or more US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulated electronic trading platforms.

Intrade has listed a market for movie markets to be traded on a CFTC regulated platform before the end of June 2010. This market can be found under Financial > Movie Markets.

Contract Rules:

This contract will settle (expire) at 100 ($10.00) if movie markets have traded on a CFTC regulated electronic trading platform before midnight ET on the date specified in the contract.

The contract will settle (expire) at 0 ($0.00) if movie markets have not traded on a CFTC regulated electronic trading platform before midnight ET on the date specified in the contract.

Expiry will be based on the commencement of movie markets trading on a CFTC regulated platform, as reported by the trading platform involved or three independent and reliable media sources.

The Exchange reserves the right to invoke Contract Rule 1.8 (Time Protection) if deemed appropriate.

Any changes to the result after the contract has expired will not be taken into account - Exchange Rule 1.4
